This small-displacement engine is a GM "3400" unit that's good for 19-20 mpg city and 22-23 mpg highway, but it's not much power by comparison to larger sport utilities like the Ford Escape and Toyota RAV4. The Torrent GXP model adds 264 hp, which gives the Torrent an edge in both performance and fuel efficiency.
